The Peace Garden
The Peace Garden at Universal Pathways was created in 1998 before much of the world turned to turmoil. It was dedicated by hundreds of school children from seven schools in the presence of the president of the World Peace Prayer Society. The garden contains eight poles, each with the prayer “May peace prevail on earth” in four languages plus Braille and American Sign Language. One of the many positive outcomes from this effort is the creation of three other peace gardens at area schools. Historically, Peace Pole Gardens and dedications began in Japan after World War II. There are now thousands of them throughout the world.
We have planted meaningful trees and shrubs, annuals and perennials, and there is a small section for potted plants.
It is peaceful—a place for peace, reflection and contemplation. Why war? And how can we alter our emotions and responses to reach peace? Is it possible? The garden is a place to question—it welcomes you and your questions.
